AlittlePieceOfVenezuela

Tapi apa reaksi She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named mendengar pernyataan You-Know-He?

Wuaouw, fantastis, 450 rupiah/liter!

Hohohohoho…

Obrolan beralih mengenai sebuah kota bernama Caracas, ibukota Venezuela.

Kenapa She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named meninggalkan tanah kelahirannya?

Huehehehehe…

English free-translate:

I have a friend from Venezuela, born about 25 years ago. For her safety, let we just call her with a nickname “She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named”. Looks like Lord Voldermort, isn’t it? Hey don’t say that name or Death Eater will come!

This girl is from Venezuela, but when I write this note, she was here for doing her hobby about photography. I got a little information about Venezuela from her.

Venezuela. What are we thinking first when we hear the world “Venezuela”?

For those who love Geography, they will imagine about a country located on the North-end coast of South America, bordered with Colombia in West, Brazil in South, and Guyana in West and Caribbean Sea in North.

For those who love politic, they will imagine about Hugo Chavez, the president of Venezuela which is famous of his socialism. Especially in South America, socialism is spread fast. Not only in Venezuela, but also Evo Morales in Bolivia, Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner in Argentina in Argentina, Luis Inacio Pia da Silva in Brazil, and others.

For those who love football, they will imagine a football team which is always loses in South America World Cup qualification match. But that was the past. Now, Venezuela’s football team has developed and not always in the lowest position anymore.

And for they whose eyes like to stare at the women, they will imagine a contest called “Miss Universe”, a beauty contest which Venezuelan girls are always the winner.

Everything is clearer when She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named tells about Venezuela. I heard when she discusses with a man called “You-Know-He”. You-Know-He admit that he is a socialist and he tells her that he adore Hugo Chavez and his socialism.

But what did She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named reaction when she hears what You-Know-He said? She disagreement him and tells the truth happened in her country!

In the world opinion, Venezuela is known as a “brave” country. When other country are obedient and bow down to United States of America, in Hugo Chavez’ hand, Venezuela bravery takes the opposite place. And don’t we ever forget that Venezuela is one of the oil-production-country!

That is our opinion as a foreign. But how is She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Name’s opinion?

She tells that, in Indonesia, a woman can calmly drive a motorcycle across the city safely (actually it isn’t 100% safe, because there were many man who love to stare at the women who drive a motorcycle using only a short pants and a tank top. Don’t they get a cold, do they?)

But in Venezuela, that can be very rare. Why? Because the criminality there is very-very high! Every week, about 70-80 people are murdered in Venezuela! Fantastic!

Why that can be happen? I don’t really know, but maybe because the good’s price there are very expensive, especially imported goods, so they need to kill for fulfill their economics. She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named continued, she thinks that imported goods in Indonesia are counted cheap compare to in her country.

As a comparison, the price of standard McDonald package (burger, French fries and soft drink) that only cost 25000 rupiahs in Indonesia, in Venezuela can reach 20 US dollar or about 180000 rupiahs! So does the Blackberry in Indonesia, the price is about 3.8 – 6 million rupiahs, according to its type. But in Venezuela, the price reaches 1000 US dollar or about 10 million rupiahs! That’s why She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named finally bought her Blackberry here, which maybe still expensive goods for local person.

But don’t get it wrong, there are cheap goods in Venezuela that the price is extremely cheap. What is that? Yes, you are wrong if your answer is cat-rice (nasi kucing, well known as angkringan) or green-bean-porridge (burjo or bubur kacang ijo). Because the answer is: fuel!

When we talk about the vehicle in Venezuela, she said that she only need 2 US dollar for fill a full tank fuel of a car. Average car has a fuel tank capacity about 35 – 40 liters. Because they only need 2 US dollar or +- 18000 rupiahs for 40 litres fuel, so it means that the fuel price in Venezuela is only 450 rupiahs/liters!

Wuaouw, fantastic, 450 rupiahs/liters! 10 times cheaper than the price in Indonesia! In Indonesia, that was happen in the past, when Soeharto was the president. Now, 2 US dollar is only capable to fill a full tank fuel of a motorcycle!

And sadly, while smiling, She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named said that, that fuel is the only cheapest thing in Venezuela! Hohohohoho…

The conversation move to a city named Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela. In Indonesia, we have Jakarta, a metropolitan city with its skyscraper, traffic and also its district, elite district or poor district.

How about Caracas? Generally, Caracas is like Bandung. Caracas is located in the North of Venezuela, surrounded by mountain with the height about 800 meters above the sea surface. She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named show me the pictures of Caracas from her Blackberry, and indeed, Caracas has a fantastic mountain view! A city full of building, surround by the mountain.

We can see a skyscraper there, with mountain background. But on the other side there is also picture about slum. Just like Jakarta. Wherever there are the skyscrapers, there will be a slum too.

Why did She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named leave her country?  In general, she comes here to doing her hobby about photography. But…

She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named was graduated from International Relationship. As an International Relationship person, one of their dreams is to work at ministry of international affair. And so does her. But in Venezuela with today political situation, the government doesn’t allow to hire a person with “different view” to become a part of their government system.

And so does She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named that has a different view with today government. So the consequence is, until today, she will never have chance by the government to work at ministry of international affairs! Her dream is falling just because the political interest!

But she proudly says that, that will never decrease her love to her country, Venezuela. Even though she went out from Venezuela, her love to Venezuela will be lasting forever. That was what she repeatedly said when she had a discussion with You-Know-He.

Today, She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named has left Venezuela, moving across the world. Not only for doing her hobby about photography, but also bring another mission: introduce Venezuela to all the people in the world.

And it seems that her mission is starting to have a result. The proof is that today, an Indonesian people willing to make his time to write a little piece of Venezuela! Huehehehehe…
